Founded in Copenhagen in 1999, Design by Us is the rebellious cousin of Scandinavian design. While their neighbors lean into muted minimalism and pale timber, they deal in bold colors, theatrical shapes, and a heavy dose of humor. They prove that Nordic interiors don't have to be completely serious. Their fixtures are meant to stand out, acting as natural conversation starters in a boutique hotel lobby or a quirky living room. Rather than stripping a space down to its bare essentials, their pieces add a layer of playful decadence and unapologetic glamour. This streak is obvious in their lighting catalog. The Ballroom pendant takes classic blown glass, dips it in vibrant colors, and finishes it with a hand-painted gold or silver rim. The New Wave Optic uses rippled glass to project mesmerizing, wavy patterns onto blank walls.
