AJ Wall Lamp

Arne Jacobsen designed this fixture, among many other features, for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957. The clean, distinguished shape of the AJ Lamp with its immaculate light could be seen throughout the hotel in copper and stainless steel, forming an integral part of the total design concept Jacobsen had created for the building — he practically designed everything himself. The AJ Wall Lamp's form is rooted in the same geometric logic as its table and floor counterparts: the shade is a synthesis of a cylinder and a cone, two pure shapes that together concentrate light precisely where it is needed. The angle of the diffuser can be adjusted approximately 90 degrees vertically and 60 degrees to each side, making it exceptionally versatile — equally suited as a bedside reading light, a desk companion, or an ambient accent along a corridor or living space. The white-painted inner shade yields a pleasant, downward-directed glow with virtually no glare. The AJ Wall Lamp has an instantly recognisable form, featuring a diagonally slanted conical diffuser that can be rotated around the base, creating a relaxed atmosphere with almost zero glare. The parallels between the straight lines and the combination of straight and curved angles in the AJ's design are also visible in the geometric contours of Jacobsen's own buildings — a reminder that this is a lamp conceived by an architect who thought in total environments. Available in Stainless Steel, Black, Dusty Blue, Electric Orange, Pale Petroleum, Soft Lemon, Warm Grey, Warm Sand, and White. An on/off switch is located on the wall plate. Installation can be done with or without a cable, with various switch options; where a cable is used, a 2.4 m cord with on/off switch on the wall box is included.
