Joco Side Table T1

The Joco Side Table T1 from Walter Knoll is an exercise in extreme visual reduction. Designed by the Austrian studio EOOS, it is constructed entirely from steel, bypassing heavy, solid panels in favor of a slender wire framework. Finished in a stark matte black or a warm matte bronze, the design strips away all unnecessary bulk. With its taller, slightly narrower dimensions compared to others in the series, it is scaled specifically to tuck neatly against the arm of a sofa or function as a lightweight nightstand in a tight room. The table top avoids being a simple, flat disc. Instead, the circular steel surface is laser-cut with a precise geometric pattern, creating a faceted, open grid. This structure allows natural light to pass directly through the top, dropping sharp, structured shadows onto the floor below. Despite the thin gauge of the metal, the intersecting wire base provides a highly rigid, stable foundation. It is built to securely hold a heavy table lamp, a stack of books, or daily drinks without bending or wobbling. Because the wire frame is almost entirely hollow, it doesn't block sightlines or trap light, keeping the surrounding space feeling open and uncluttered. Walter Knoll produces the T1 as a specific proportion within the wider Joco collection. It works perfectly as a highly practical standalone fixture in a narrow corner, but its geometry also allows it to nest cleanly alongside the wider T2 model to create a sprawling, overlapping centerpiece. It is a quiet, hardworking object that brings sharp architectural lines and straightforward utility to a space.
