AJ Table Lamp

Arne Jacobsen designed this lamp, among many other features, for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957. The clean, distinguished shape of the AJ Lamp with its immaculate light could be seen throughout the hotel in copper and stainless steel, forming an integral part of the total design concept Jacobsen created for the building. Since its launch, the AJ Table Lamp has become synonymous with minimalist elegance and has played a pivotal role in the evolution of modern lighting. The AJ Table is built on the same principles as the AJ Floor, but with an expanded shade to better serve its role as a working desk lamp. The parallels between straight lines and the combination of straight and curved angles in the AJ's design mirror the geometric contours of Jacobsen's own architecture — a lamp that is, in every sense, an extension of its creator. A sense of hidden symmetry runs through the piece: the rounded base answers the sharp angle of the shade, and the white-painted interior casts a bright, even glow across surrounding surfaces. The shade can be tilted to adjust light distribution, giving it genuine versatility across reading, desk work, and ambient use. The base was originally designed to accommodate an ashtray — a detail that speaks to the era of its conception — and now contributes purely to the sculptural integrity of the form. Available in Stainless Steel, Black, Dusty Blue, Electric Orange, Pale Petroleum, Soft Lemon, Warm Grey, Warm Sand, and White, each finish has been carefully chosen in dialogue with Jacobsen's broader colour sensibility. The white version ships with a white cord; all other colours come with a black cord, with an on/off switch located on the base.
