The 1 Hotel Copenhagen designed by Norm Architects is a biophilic luxury retreat housed in a modernist 1930s landmark that formerly served as the iconic Hotel Skt. Petri in the vibrant Latin Quarter. The interior narrative themed At 1 with Nature explores the tension between urban vitality and organic serenity by blending Scandinavian functionalism with sustainable biophilic design.

The hotel features two hundred and eighty-two rooms split into distinct nature-focused layouts ranging from cozy city sanctuaries to expansive multi-room suites. Guest Rooms draw inspiration from tactile minimalism with bespoke platform beds utilizing natural oak frames alongside walls finished in low-VOC Scandinavian marble paint and OEKO-TEX certified linens. The Signature Suites celebrate residential tranquility through open-plan living and functional kitchenette extensions along with textured fabric-wrapped wardrobe doors and panoramic neighborhood views.

Public spaces are designed as a lush indoor landscape of natural elements with the lobby featuring striking living plant installations and reclaimed timber structures as a nod to Denmark’s deep connection to the organic world. Specialized social zones include the lively destination restaurant PÆRE for farm-to-table culinary gatherings and the intimate cocktail lounge Ember which is a moody urban nook filled with diffused ambient lighting and earthy textures.

The furniture is a mix of sculptural woodwork and bespoke handcrafted pieces with most room cabinetry and textured headboards custom-designed specifically for this site. A notable collaboration with local artisans features lounge chairs produced in untreated natural oak and muted bouclé fabrics exclusive to this property while bespoke filtered drinking water stations were integrated to minimize single-use footprint.

The design utilizes soft subdued tones such as sandy taupe, warm stone, weathered clay, and moss green across natural pigments and tactile upholstery. Sustainable elements are curated throughout the property including original brick floor tiles and salvaged wooden planks inspired by Copenhagen’s architectural circularity. The leafy central terrace serves as an open-air gathering hub for guests while tactile lime plaster meets honed limestone and soft linen curtains in the open-plan bathrooms to emphasize a diverse material mix.
