Serving as a specialized mechanical counterpart to the broader Space Copenhagen seating series, the Stay Footrest by GUBI isolates the ergonomic function of lower-body support into a standalone organic volume. By measuring exactly 78 by 62 centimeters and dropping to a precise 40-centimeter height, the 15-kilogram module creates an uncompromising alignment with the lounge chair's seating plane. This exact geometric scaling allows it to function as a seamless horizontal bridge for reclining, while remaining compact enough to be pushed out of primary circulation paths when unused. Within its curved perimeter, the internal construction completely abandons rigid, exposed framing in favor of a heavily padded, unified core. A solid wood foundation acts as the unyielding base, which is subsequently swallowed by dense, high-resilience polyurethane foam. Rather than dividing the structure into a separate base and cushion, this continuous casting ensures the ergonomic boundary remains absolutely solid. Hovering just above the floor on a recessed, black-finished plinth, the heavy-duty mass obscures its load-bearing mechanics, maintaining a strict, monolithic visual profile across the room. Dictating its functional resilience in high-traffic environments, the exterior is entirely defined by a taut textile membrane. Sheathed in heavy-duty commercial wool or deeply textured bouclé, the continuous upholstery operates as a structural skin that actively manages localized friction and daily wear. Stripped of delicate wood veneers, protruding metal legs, or applied decorative hardware, the footrest is a strictly utilitarian, hardworking fixture that relies entirely on dense volumetric weight and tactile material honesty to physically anchor a seating zone.
