Founded in Copenhagen in 2015 by Danish designer Nikolaj Lorentz Mentze, STUDIO 0405 operates at the fertile intersection of architecture, spatial design, and domestic objects. The practice investigates the historical, technical, and material cultures of everyday items, collaborating closely with specialized craftsmen, artists, and photographers to develop refined designs defined by quiet structural clarity. The studio achieved international recognition through its prolific partnership with HAY. For the brand, Mentze designed the acclaimed Apollo lighting collection—highlighted by the Apollo Portable Lamp, handcrafted from mouth-blown opal glass, alongside sweeping chandeliers and wall sconces that reinterpret classical luminaire typologies. His portfolio also includes the Tiny cast-bronze decorative collection for HAY, alongside bespoke interiors, exhibition spaces, and commissions for Made by Hand, Frama, and Kvadrat.
