The Hotel Petra Copenhagen, located on Dronningens Tværgade, is a boutique design hotel created as a joint venture between the design brand &Tradition and Copenhagen Design Hotels. Housed within a carefully restored 1943 building designed by the renowned Danish Functionalist architect Kay Fisker, the property seamlessly bridges historic preservation with modern lifestyle sensibilities. The interior narrative functions as a living archive of Danish design, meticulously honoring Fisker’s architectural legacy by maintaining original terrazzo floors, handcrafted stairway bannisters, brass fixtures, and curved wood accents. The compact lobby features rich stained oak veneer paneling that provides a warm, architectural background throughout the building. To add depth and visual layers against this traditional woodwork, the design team integrated high-gloss surfaces, including volcanic ash ExCinere tiles by Dzek and Formafantasma for the bar facade and custom lava stone countertops by File Under Pop. The lobby also highlights a striking, double-height custom version of Jaime Hayon’s Archivo shelving unit alongside the iconic, softly textured Little Petra lounge chair originally sketched by Viggo Boesen in 1928. Moving past the reception area, the ground-floor Petra Bar and Restaurant introduces further textural contrast, combining marble-topped dining tables by Sami Kallio, industrial stainless steel prep kitchens, and Verner Panton’s geometric Wire stools. The dining space is furnished with custom leather upholstery set alongside classic 1950s oak, walnut, and beech chairs created by mid-century icons Robin Day and Hvidt and Mølgaard. Upstairs, the forty guest rooms are all uniquely styled to match the specific dimensions of the historic architecture. The private spaces pair calming off-white walls and soft wool carpets with custom wooden beds and minimalist cabinetry. Each room contains a thoughtfully curated selection of lighting and furniture from the hotel's namesake brand, such as the rich blue Petra lounge chair, Luca Nichetto’s smoked-glass Sett side table, and Kastholm and Fabricius' sculptural aluminum P376 pendant lights. The overall color palette throughout the entire property draws directly on historical tones that may have originally decorated the building's walls, ensuring an authentic yet thoroughly contemporary sanctuary for design enthusiasts
