The LOKAL Koppartråden designed by Swedish interior design studio STILLBACK is a contemporary Nordic bistro retreat housed in an industrial property on Vasagatan that celebrates Sundbyberg’s rich manufacturing legacy as a former cable and wire production hub. The interior narrative themed Industrial Heritage and Tactile Modernism explores the tension between utilitarian history and neighborhood warmth by blending raw architectural bones with refined Scandinavian design.
The venue features one hundred and fifty seats split into cohesive dining zones that balance high-energy gatherings with intimate culinary moments. Dining Areas draw inspiration from modern Scandinavian minimalism with bespoke light-oak tables utilizing natural grains alongside warm acoustic wall panels and expansive street-facing windows. The Central Bar celebrates artisanal beverage culture through a prominent illuminated counter along with sleek high-top arrangements and focused task lighting.
Public spaces are designed as an open-plan neighborhood living room with the entry lounge featuring warm ambient pendants and subtle metallic accents as a nod to the site’s historic copper wire production past. Specialized social zones include the bustling main dining hall for sustainable seasonal lunches and the cozy evening bar which is a welcoming urban nook filled with curated local beers and Swedish bistro classics.
The furniture is a mix of Scandinavian icons and bespoke carpentry with most service stations, bench seating, and storage joinery custom-designed specifically for this site. A notable collaboration with Audo Copenhagen features Ready Dining Chairs and fully upholstered Co Bar Chairs produced in tactile neutral fabrics exclusive to this property while bespoke warm-toned joinery was developed to soften the surrounding industrial volume.
The design utilizes grounding Scandinavian tones such as light natural oak, warm taupe, copper bronze, and soft slate grey across textured wall finishes and refined upholstery. Thoughtful artisanal elements are curated throughout the property including minimalist ceramic tableware and seasonal greenery. The central open dining room serves as an accessible culinary anchor for locals and visitors alike while pale blonde wood meets brushed steel details, exposed ductwork, and soft woven fabrics in the seating areas to emphasize a diverse material mix.
