Studio Tord Boontje
London-based practice Studio Tord Boontje—founded in 1996 by Dutch designer Tord Boontje (b. 1968)—is internationally celebrated for breaking modernist austerity with flora, fauna, and decorative whimsy. Graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven and the Royal College of Art in London, Boontje merged early laser-cutting technology with traditional artisanal craft to champion emotional design. Boontje achieved design immortality with the iconic Wednesday Light and the laser-cut Tyvek Midsummer Light (2004), alongside his monumental collaborations with crystal house Swarovski, led by the sprawling Blossom chandelier. For Italian brand Moroso, he created the celebrated Shadowy outdoor furniture collection, woven by African craftspeople using colorful plastic fishing threads, alongside ethereal lighting for Artemide.
