Wedge Side Table

The Wedge Side Table from Wendelbo takes a highly sculptural, volumetric approach to occasional furniture. Designed by the Swedish firm Note Design Studio, it entirely bypasses slender, four-legged metal frames or traditional pedestal bases in favor of a solid, grounded cylinder. Built from oak veneer tightly wrapped over a rigid MDF core—available in deep black or dark brown stains—the table commands the floor with substantial physical weight. This monolithic construction ensures absolute mechanical stability, preventing the piece from tipping or wobbling even in high-traffic seating areas. Its defining structural feature is the deep, asymmetrical cut removed directly from its main volume. Shaped effectively like a missing wedge of cake, this severe geometric void serves a dual purpose. Visually, it hollows out the mass of the cylinder, allowing the piece to cast deep, shifting shadows rather than appearing as an impenetrable block. Functionally, this recessed area reveals a small, integrated horizontal plateau at its base, creating a dedicated secondary ledge specifically scaled for resting a phone, keys, or a small glass out of the way of the primary tabletop. Engineered to adapt to different spatial and functional demands, the Wedge is produced in two specifically calibrated scales. The low version measures 48 centimeters in diameter and 45 centimeters tall, serving as a traditional anchor next to a deep lounge chair. In contrast, the taller variant condenses its diameter to 43 centimeters while rising to 60 centimeters high. This specific height allows the taller table to function mechanically as a highly practical pull-up workstation, positioning a laptop or coffee at an exact ergonomic height beside a sofa. Stripped of unnecessary decorative hardware, it relies entirely on stark geometry and structural presence to define a room.
