The Sticks’n’Sushi restaurant on Istedgade in the vibrant Vesterbro district, renovated by Copenhagen-based Studio Emily Broom, features a raw yet refined interior design that mirrors the neighborhood's industrial heritage while embracing Japanese minimalism. The layout centers around a striking new cocktail bar made of blackened steel and natural stone, serving as a social focal point that connects the bustling energy of the street with the quiet choreography of the open kitchen. The interior employs a rich material gradient that starts light near the large windows facing the sidewalk and steadily deepens toward a cellar-like, cocooning monochromatic palette at the rear. Exposed raw brick walls and polished steel fixtures are softened by custom oak booth seating featuring low backs that invite effortless conversation across the room. For the primary furniture selection, the studio integrated pieces from the Font collection designed by David Thulstrup for Møbel Copenhagen, including curved dining chairs, sleek bar stools, and custom upholstered Font bar sofas. The seating is upholstered in grey, OEKO-TEX certified semi-aniline leather from Sørensen Leather's Spectrum and Ultra collections to provide long-lasting durability and stain protection while maintaining a warm, tactile feel. Illumination is strategically arranged to heighten the moody ambiance, utilizing strikingly simple Apollo fifty-nine pendant lamps by Pholc to define parameters and cast focused downlight over the tables. Three large, graphic split mirrors are inset directly into the rough brickwork to fragment views and playfully visually pull the neighborhood’s exterior life inside. Natural stone tabletops, untreated timber partitions, and leather accents complete the tactile, texturally layered space to form a seamless dialogue between classic Scandinavian functionality and urban Japanese craft.
