Jerusalem-born, Vancouver-based architect, sculptor, and designer Omer Arbel (b. 1976) is internationally celebrated for an experimental, process-driven practice that subverts industrial manufacturing through the fluid behavior of molten materials. Educated in architecture, Arbel co-founded design and manufacturing atelier Bocci in 2005. Arbel achieved worldwide acclaim through Bocci's chronologically numbered installations. His defining masterpiece is the 14 Series (2005)—a cast-glass sphere with an organic cylindrical frosted void housing an LED source—followed by the blown-glass 28 Series, crafted by manipulating air pressure into molten glass to create irregular interior satellite cavities. His work extends to the volcanic foam-cast 73 and the flexible copper wire 84 collections.
