Nestor Armchair

Matt Varnished Oak | Natural Braided Seat
€989,00 EUR €1.099,00 EUR
Rooted strictly in Shaker structural traditions, the Nestor Armchair by Mater bypasses complex, hidden joinery in favor of a legible, timber-driven framework. Designed by Tom Stepp and constructed from FSC-certified solid oak or beech, the frame utilizes direct right angles and unadorned vertical uprights to physically lift the user. Occupying a condensed physical footprint of just 57 centimeters wide and 53 centimeters deep, the piece is deliberately scaled for tight clustering around a standard dining table without congesting the surrounding floor plan or obstructing sightlines. Dictating its practical utility is a continuous, sculpted wooden band that physically wraps the sitter. Rather than bolting flat secondary planks onto the frame as an afterthought, the structure utilizes a sweeping crescent rail set at an exact height of 67.5 centimeters. This mechanical boundary actively stabilizes the user, providing an unyielding ledge for the arms while ensuring the chair can slide securely beneath most commercial or residential tables when not in active use. To manage physical load and friction without introducing heat-trapping synthetic foams, the seating plane relies entirely on a hand-woven matrix of natural paper cord. This tightly tensioned envelope functions mechanically to yield slightly under body weight, providing immediate anatomical support while maintaining a strict 44-centimeter seat height. Stripped of unnecessary decorative hardware or heavy upholstery skirting, the Nestor is a quiet, hardworking fixture that depends on raw material honesty and uncompromising structural logic to physically define a dining space.
