BC3 Wall Lamp

€525,00 EUR
The BC3 Wall Lamp from Santa & Cole takes a strictly functional, material-driven approach to articulated reading illumination. Designed by the Santa & Cole Team in 1995, it entirely bypasses heavy, flush-mounted sconces in favor of a highly kinetic, exposed tubular frame. Built around a rigid armature of satin nickel, the lamp is anchored to the wall via an exceptionally condensed 13-by-2-centimeter metal plate. This minimal mounting footprint allows it to be installed tightly alongside a headboard or window frame without cluttering the vertical plane. Projecting exactly 37 centimeters outward, it commands a deliberate spatial presence while keeping the surrounding wall architecture structurally open. Its defining practical feature is its uncompromising mechanical adjustability and the localized integration of tactile materials. Rather than casting a static pool of ambient light, the central metal elbow functions as a smooth horizontal pivot, allowing the user to swing the entire fixture left or right directly over a desk or a reading chair. To facilitate this physical movement without exposing the user to the rigid metal structure, a solid beech wood handle extends downward from the socket housing. This exposed timber detail functions mechanically as a dedicated ergonomic grip, providing warm, localized friction while explicitly signaling how the fixture is meant to be physically operated. The diffusion of light is strictly controlled by its handcrafted shade, entirely bypassing fragile glass or heavy metal domes. Measuring 20 centimeters in diameter and 16 centimeters high, the shade is available in highly textured materials—typically tightly wound cotton ribbon or stitched beige parchment cardboard. This tailored membrane functions mechanically to intercept the internal glare, softening the lateral glow while forcing a concentrated, targeted cone of light directly downward onto the task area. Stripped of unnecessary decorative hardware or complex counterweights, the BC3 is a quiet, hardworking fixture that relies entirely on exposed mechanics, stark material juxtaposition, and precise structural movement to maximize utility in a constrained space.
