Japanese industrial designer Jin Kuramoto (b. 1976) is celebrated for an exploratory, process-driven methodology that investigates physical materials through intuitive hands-on prototyping. Graduating from Joshibi University of Art and Design in 1999, Kuramoto honed his skills at a consumer electronics firm before establishing JIN KURAMOTO STUDIO in Tokyo in 2008. Kuramoto achieved international design acclaim through prolific collaborations with premier European and Japanese brands. For Danish brand HAY, he conceived the Knit coat rack—a sculptural piece made of three intertwined bent steel pipes that support one another through friction. His portfolio also includes molded plywood and bentwood seating for Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, woven furniture for Arflex Japan, and tactile homeware for Offecct.
