Henri Garbers

Danish industrial designer Henri Garbers is recognized for an elemental, materials-led approach that draws direct inspiration from nautical architecture, yacht rigging, and rugged coastal living. Grounded in Scandinavian functionalism, Garbers explores how high-tensile hardware and weatherproofing can elevate domestic leisure objects. Garbers gained international prominence through his fruitful collaborations with Danish outdoor specialist Skagerak (now part of Fritz Hansen). His signature creation is the Riviera Lounge—an ingenious, multi-functional outdoor lounger crafted from certified solid teak. Engineered with a slatted wooden construction that expands or contracts along internal aluminum guides, it transforms seamlessly from a compact bench or sunbed into a spacious double daybed.
