Bruno Rey
Swiss industrial designer Bruno Rey (1935–2019) was a pivotal figure in European post-war furniture design, celebrated for uniting artisanal woodworking with advanced manufacturing methods. Trained under pioneer Willy Guhl at the Zurich School of Applied Arts, Rey opened his studio in 1968, dedicated to structural innovation, ergonomic comfort, and functional purity. In 1971, Rey developed his defining masterpiece: the Rey Chair (Model 3300) for Swiss manufacturer Dietiker. Engineered with a patented, screwless die-cast aluminum joint bonded into molded beechwood, the design combined exceptional strength with fluid, rounded contours and stackable utility. It became one of the most successful Swiss contract chairs in history. In collaboration with Dietiker, Danish brand HAY revived the iconic Rey Collection, updating the chair, stool, and table series with vibrant contemporary hues.
