Lunar Lounge Chair Small
The Lunar Lounge Chair Small from Stellar Works takes a strictly tailored, volumetric approach to a condensed seating format. Designed by the Danish studio Space Copenhagen, it bypasses the heavy, uniform blocks of traditional armchairs in favor of a sweeping, highly controlled silhouette. Built on a rigid foundation of four solid timber legs—typically cut from natural oak or walnut—the framework physically lifts the upper body off the floor to keep the surrounding space visually open. Measuring just 63 centimeters wide, 57 centimeters deep, and 77 centimeters tall, it explicitly condenses the generous proportions of the standard Lunar series into a much tighter footprint. This specific scaling allows it to deliver the enveloping comfort of a dedicated lounge piece in narrow apartment corners or crowded hotel lobbies without dominating the floor plan.
Its defining practical feature is the continuous, semi-circular sweep of its molded foam shell. Rather than breaking the seat, armrests, and back into separate, rigid planes, the internal framework is engineered as a single fluid boundary that wraps directly around the sitter. This structural curvature functions mechanically to provide immediate, targeted support to the lower spine and shoulders while naturally catching the arms. By dropping the seat height to roughly 40 centimeters and integrating a deeply padded, loose internal cushion, it actively pitches the user backward, instantly creating a relaxed resting posture within a highly restricted physical volume.
Because the chair relies on a complex, organically shaped shell, the upholstery is strictly tailored to manage the continuous curves without sagging or wrinkling under heavy daily use. It is frequently specified in heavy-duty commercial textiles, tactile wools, or premium aniline leathers that actively absorb friction and light, ensuring the rounded volume remains soft and inviting rather than physically imposing. Stripped of unnecessary wooden skirting, bulky external armrests, or decorative tufting, it is a hardworking, architectural fixture that uses uncompromising geometry and material honesty to maximize ergonomic utility in a condensed space.
