Viggo Boesen
Danish architect and designer Viggo Boesen (1907–1985) was an influential pioneer of Nordic Modernism, renowned for infusing the clean functionalism (funkis) of the 1930s with soft, sculptural warmth and anatomical comfort. Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Boesen challenged the strict geometric rigidity of early modernism by exploring fluid, organic contours that embraced the natural posture of the human body. Boesen achieved enduring historical significance through his early upholstered seating and woven rattan experiments. In 1938, he designed the legendary Little Petra armchair—a compact, enveloping lounge chair characterized by soft sheepskin upholstery, open armrests, and stout turned-wood legs. Rediscovered and faithfully reissued by Danish design house &Tradition, Little Petra has become a definitive classic. His groundbreaking curved rattan designs are likewise preserved by Sika-Design.
