Rainer Daumiller
German-born, Denmark-based furniture designer and craftsman Rainer Daumiller (b. 1946) is celebrated for bringing expressive, sculptural honesty and unadorned solid timber to Scandinavian modernism. Establishing his practice in Hirtshals on Denmark's rugged northern coast during the late 1960s, Daumiller prioritized sustainably harvested European pine. Daumiller achieved international design prominence through his iconic Daumiller Armchair and dining collection (1977), manufactured historically by Hirtshals Savværk and reissued today by Danish house Gubi. Carved from solid, sustainable Scandinavian pine, the chair is celebrated for its sculpted ergonomic seat, sturdy cylindrical legs, and curved backrest that pays homage to traditional Danish milking stools while embracing bold brutalist proportions.
