STRAP Bar Chair

The Strap Bar Chair from OX Denmarq takes a strictly minimalist approach to counter-height seating. Designed by Dennis Marquart, it entirely bypasses solid wooden shells or molded plastic in favor of suspended leather. The seat and backrest are formed from thick, 3-millimeter vegetable-tanned aniline leather, tightly slung over a rigid frame of black powder-coated steel. This heavy-gauge leather functions structurally, providing immediate tension and support while naturally contouring to the user without the need for bulky foam padding or internal upholstery. Measuring roughly 43 centimeters wide with a seat height of 70 centimeters, it is scaled specifically for standard residential kitchen islands rather than elevated commercial bar tops. The slender metal frame maintains an incredibly open, skeletal footprint, allowing you to line up several chairs side-by-side without visually blocking the room or crowding the floor plan. To handle the physical stress of daily use, a solid steel footrest is welded directly between the front legs, structurally reinforcing the base while giving you a natural place to anchor your feet. Because the aniline leather is left largely unsealed, it requires a pragmatic approach to ownership. Offered in stark, elemental tones like cognac, hazelnut, and deep black, the organic surface is built to absorb natural oils and friction, intentionally developing a heavy, darkened patina over years of use. Stripped of unnecessary decorative trim or complicated hardware, it is a hardworking, heavy-duty fixture that relies entirely on raw material strength and straightforward construction to physically anchor a kitchen space.
