French industrial designer and interior architect Tristan Lohner (b. 1969) is celebrated for bringing democratic warmth, graphic wit, and portable functionality to contemporary living. Beginning his career with a diploma in cabinetmaking before studying product design at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Lohner served as director of the RBC Design Center before founding his studio. Lohner achieved global design fame through his prolific partnership with French outdoor brand Fermob. His crowning breakthrough is the Balad lamp (2015)—a pioneer of the portable, rechargeable LED lighting movement—featuring a frosted polyethylene diffuser and an ergonomic, colorful aluminum handle inspired by headphones. He followed with the compact Aplô lamp system, the Bebop occasional tables, and seating lines defined by fluid curves and weatherproof resilience.
