José de la O
Mexican industrial designer José de la O is recognized for an exploratory, socially minded practice that bridges contemporary industrial design with indigenous Mexican craft traditions. Earning a master’s from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2010, he operated in the Netherlands before returning to Mexico City to establish Studio José de la O. De la O gained international recognition for evocative lighting, homeware, and speculative research. Landmark works include the Vicky hydroponic pendant lamp—which merges domestic illumination with indoor plant cultivation—and the tactile O-Series glassware and ceramics. Working frequently with local artisanal workshops, his furniture and tableware explore resource efficiency, cultural identity, and unpretentious functionality.
