Jacques Adnet
Pioneering French architect and designer Jacques Adnet (1900–1984) was a towering figure of mid-century French modernism. Educated at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Adnet directed the famed design studio Compagnie des Arts Français from 1928 to 1960, championing functional modernity fused with exquisite Parisian luxury. Adnet was a trailblazer in elevating unexpected materials, famously pairing industrial tubular steel and brass with hand-stitched full-grain leather. In 1950, he established an iconic collaboration with fashion house Hermès, conceiving a legendary series of leather-wrapped furniture and interior accessories. Today, his masterworks are faithfully reissued by Danish house GUBI, most notably the iconic round and rectangular Adnet Mirrors, suspended by equestrian-inspired buckled leather straps, and the minimalist Adnet Coffee Table.
