Helge Sibast
Danish cabinetmaker and furniture architect Helge Sibast (1908–1985) was an essential mid-century master whose expressive, handcrafted timber furniture helped propel Danish Modernism onto the world stage. Taking over his father’s wood workshop, Sibast Møbler, in the 1930s, Sibast served as both lead designer and production head. Sibast is best known for his iconic wooden seating collections, manufactured with intricate steam-bent joinery. In 1953, he created the legendary Sibast No 7 dining chair—characterized by its floating backrest and inverted tapered legs—followed by the expressive Sibast No 8 spindle-back chair (1958), a piece admired personally by Arne Jacobsen. Today, his grandson Ditlev Sibast reissues these heirloom designs true to his original methods.
