Barcelona-based ceramic artist and industrial designer Xavier Mañosa (b. 1981)—founder of creative atelier Apparatu—is globally celebrated for breaking the boundary between traditional artisan ceramics and mass industrial design. Raised in a family of master potters, Mañosa studied industrial design in Barcelona and Berlin, returning to the kiln to challenge clay’s physical limitations. Mañosa achieved worldwide design fame through his landmark collaboration with Spanish lighting house Marset. Together with designer Fabien Dumas, he conceived the iconic Scotch Club and Pleat Box pendant collections—digitally modeled shades slip-cast in terracotta with interior real-gold or white enamel linings that reflect a warm, velvety glow. He has also authored ceramic homeware and furniture accessories for BD Barcelona, Artek, and Nike.
