Pierre Paulin
Parisian master Pierre Paulin (1927–2009) was one of the most daring visionaries of postwar French modernism. Paulin revolutionized twentieth-century interiors in the 1960s by replacing rigid wooden chair frames with tubular steel structures cloaked in innovative stretch jersey fabrics. Paulin's defining breakthroughs came through his legendary partnership with Dutch manufacturer Artifort. There, he conceived groundbreaking icons including the fluid Ribbon Chair, the sculptural Tongue, the Mushroom, and the ergonomic Orange Slice. His avant-garde vision led to historic commissions to redesign private apartments in the Élysée Palace for French presidents. Today, his portfolio is celebrated through houses like GUBI and Ligne Roset, including the cloud-like Pacha lounge chair.
