Danish design pioneers Nanna Ditzel (1923–2005) and Jørgen Ditzel (1921–1961) were among the most daring innovators of mid-century Scandinavian modernism. Meeting while studying at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, the married couple established their joint studio in 1946, rejecting rigid rectilinear functionalism in favor of flowing, body-conscious curves and experimental materials. The duo achieved worldwide design immortality in 1959 with the Hanging Egg Chair, a sculptural suspended basket woven from natural wicker, produced today by Sika-Design. They also created pioneering molded foam seating, organic silver jewelry for Georg Jensen, and the playful Toadstool children's furniture. Following Jørgen’s early death, Nanna continued a monumental solo career, authoring the stackable Trinidad Chair (1993) for Fredericia.
