Sami Kallio
Born in Helsinki and raised in Sweden, designer and carpenter Sami Kallio brings a tactile, hands-on sensibility to contemporary Scandinavian furniture. Operating his studio and workshop out of Gothenburg, Kallio bridges classic Nordic cabinetmaking with progressive industrial manufacturing, proving that soul and scalability can effortlessly coexist. His training as both a master woodworker and an industrial designer gives him an intuitive understanding of timber's natural strengths and limits. He pioneered modern applications of traditional woodturning and compression moulding, best exemplified by the acclaimed In Between chair and table series for &Tradition. Melding solid wood craftsmanship with feather-light veneer cutouts, the collection balances structural presence with visual airiness. Kallio designs pieces that feel familiar yet decidedly modern, honoring traditional carpentry through honest details, ergonomic comfort, and enduring silhouettes.
