Jørgen Bækmark
Danish architect and furniture designer Jørgen Bækmark (1929–2021) was an influential steward of the golden age of Danish Modernism. Trained as a cabinetmaker and graduating from the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, Bækmark directed the influential FDB Møbler design studio from 1958 to 1967, championing honest, durable furniture for ordinary Danish households. His defining legacy remains the J80, J81, and J82 seating series for FDB Møbler. Celebrated for steam-bent solid beech and oak frames, turned wood stretchers, and hand-woven natural paper cord seats, these chairs exemplify ergonomic balance and repairability. He also authored the matching J83 benches and functional dining tables that remain cornerstones of Danish dining culture.
