Danish industrial designer Øivind Slaatto (b. 1978) is celebrated for bringing mathematical principles of nature, poetic light refraction, and musical harmony to contemporary lighting and acoustic products. Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the Danish National Academy of Music, Slaatto approaches design with a musician’s sense of rhythm and structural resonance. Slaatto achieved international design fame through his defining collaboration with Danish lighting master Louis Poulsen. In 2015, he conceived the iconic Patera Pendant—a luminous sphere based on the mathematical Fibonacci sequence, composed of hand-woven, diamond-shaped cells that provide soft, 360-degree glare-free illumination. For Bang & Olufsen, he designed the circular Beoplay A9 wireless speaker, alongside acoustic wall tiles for Abstracta.
