Swedish-French designer Mathieu Gustafsson (b. 1983) is celebrated for bringing graphic lightness, tactile transparency, and cultural synthesis to Scandinavian furniture. Rooted in both Parisian fashion sensibilities and Swedish cabinetmaking traditions, Gustafsson graduated with a Master’s in Furniture Design from Konstfack in Stockholm, founding his studio in 2013. Gustafsson achieved international design prominence through his defining collaboration with Design House Stockholm. His crowning triumph is the Air Collection—a family of contemporary sideboards and cabinets combining solid oak frames with woven French cane cane-webbing inserts. By allowing light and airflow to pass through the cabinetry, the pieces provide visual weightlessness in compact interiors. He has also authored contract seating for Grand Hôtel Stockholm and Gärsnäs.
