Bodil Kjær
Danish architect, urban planner, and professor Bodil Kjær (b. 1932) is celebrated for bringing radical architectural rationalism and ergonomic functionality to mid-century Scandinavian furniture. Studying at the School of Interior Architecture in Copenhagen and the Royal College of Art in London, Kjær rejected decorative conventions in favor of structural clarity. Kjær achieved international design fame with her iconic 1959 collection, dubbed "Elements of Architecture," produced today by Carl Hansen & Søn and Cassina. Her defining triumph is the Office Desk (Working Desk 901)—famously dubbed the "James Bond Desk" after starring in three 007 films—featuring floating drawers suspended within a chrome steel base. She also created the Indoor-Outdoor slatted teak furniture series.
