Arne Norell
Swedish furniture designer Arne Norell (1917–1971) was an essential innovator of post-war Scandinavian modernism, celebrated for marrying traditional leathercraft with nomadic functionalism. Establishing his workshop in Stockholm in 1954 before moving to Aneby, Norell founded Möbel AB Arne Norell, championing visible construction and tactile materials. Norell achieved international design fame with the iconic Sirocco Safari Chair (1964)—a lightweight, knock-down armchair crafted from turned solid ash, heavy saddle leather, and brass buckles that requires no glue or screws. His portfolio also includes the prestigious British Furniture Manufacturers Showpiece of the Year award-winning Ari Lounge Chair (1966), framed in brushed spring steel, alongside the Kontiki series.
