Strand+Hvass

Copenhagen-based design partnership Strand+Hvass, established in 1998 by Christina Strand and Niels Hvass, is celebrated for revitalizing Denmark's functionalist legacy through an honest, human-centered lens. Both graduates of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, the duo balances emotional resonance with commercial pragmatism, paring down every design to its essential form, structural function, and material honesty. Strand+Hvass achieved major prominence through their acclaimed collaborations with heritage Danish manufacturers, most notably Carl Hansen & Søn. Together, they developed the iconic Extend dining table, the sculptural Straight chair, and the modular Inline storage system, uniting solid hardwoods with concealed engineering. The studio has also created defining seating, tables, and outdoor collections for brands like Cane-line, Fredericia Furniture, and Four Design, including the versatile Breeze outdoor line.
