Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen
Danish master cabinetmaker and furniture architect Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen (1920–2008) was a distinguished figure of mid-century Scandinavian woodworking. Earning his journeyman's certificate with a bronze medal from the Danish Technological Institute, he founded Møbelintarsia in 1948, dedicated to preserving the historic artisan craft of wood inlay within modern Danish furniture. Jørgensen is revered for his solid oak and smoked ash creations, revived today by his granddaughter Nanna Aakjær through Aakjaer Furniture. His timeless icons include the No. 100 and Heart coffee tables, alongside the Arcus floating shelf collection. His work is distinguished by curved solid-wood lips, refined veneer marquetries, and invisible joinery that celebrate the warmth of natural timber.
