Fried Egg Lounge Chair - Right-facing

The Fried Egg Lounge Chair from Warm Nordic takes a strictly asymmetrical approach to residential seating. Designed by Danish architect Hans Olsen in 1956, it bypasses the rigid, box-like volumes of traditional armchairs in favor of a highly fluid, structurally dynamic profile. Built around a solid timber frame—typically cut from oiled oak or a warm teak finish—the main body is physically lifted off the floor by slender, tapered wooden legs, keeping the surrounding floor plan feeling open and visually uncluttered. Measuring roughly 99 centimeters wide and 68 centimeters deep, it maintains a highly condensed overall footprint while offering the functional seating area of a much larger piece. Its defining practical feature is the sweeping, flat armrest that gives the chair its name. Rather than enclosing the user with matching, vertical structural walls, one side of the chair extends outward into a broad, horizontal plane. This asymmetrical extension is not a decorative flourish; it functions mechanically to support shifting resting postures. It actively allows you to pivot sideways and swing your legs over the edge, effectively turning a compact armchair into a localized chaise lounge without requiring a separate, space-consuming ottoman. To visually break up its physical mass, the chair is engineered to accommodate contrasting, two-tone upholstery. The contoured backrest and deep seat cushion are tightly tailored in heavy-duty commercial textiles, highly tactile bouclé, or premium aniline leather, explicitly fitted to prevent the material from sagging or shifting as the user changes position. Stripped of unnecessary skirting or concealed brackets, the Fried Egg is a hardworking, highly functional fixture that relies on unconventional geometry and material honesty to maximize everyday utility in a tight space.
