Description
The Spanish Dining Armchair Model 3238 by Fredericia is an iconic Scandinavian masterpiece designed by legendary grandmaster Børge Mogensen in 1964 that strikes a flawless balance between rustic medieval inspiration and functional modernist elegance. Originally conceived as an elevated dining extension to his highly celebrated 1958 lounge classic, The Spanish Chair, this dining variant derives its distinct identity from its absolute structural purity and heavy utilization of premium, natural materials. It is crafted around a robust, brawny frame made from sustainably sourced solid oak or walnut, featuring upright geometric lines and integrated wide armrests that provide comfortable support while dining or conversing. The suspended seat and backrest are formed from a single layer of vegetable-tanned, heavy-grade saddle leather, sourced from the historic Tärnsjö Garveri tannery in Sweden and secured underneath with signature brass or steel roller buckles. This intelligent, flexible design serves an essential functional purpose, as the adjustable straps can be progressively tightened over decades of use as the premium leather expands and forms a personalized patina. Measuring 64.5 cm wide, 48 cm deep, and 84.5 cm high with a raised standard dining seat height of 46 cm, the made-to-order chair is available in soap-treated, oiled, or black lacquered wood finishes paired with natural, cognac, dark brown, or black leather.
