Scholten & Baijings
Dutch design partnership Scholten & Baijings, founded in Amsterdam in 2000 by Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings, is celebrated for a rigorous, hands-on methodology centered on layered grids, subtle gradations, and unexpected color palettes. Working across furniture, textiles, and everyday objects, the duo avoids digital shortcuts, instead using scale models, paper prototypes, and manual dye tests to uncover new tactile expressions. The studio gained widespread international recognition through landmark collaborations with HAY, developing the graphic Colour Carpet series, the patterned Colour Porcelain tableware, and vibrant home textiles. For Moroso, they created the layered Ottoman seating system; for Herman Miller, an expressive fabric collection; and for Japanese house Karimoku New Standard, the refined Colour Wood tables. They have also partnered with luxury brands like MINI, BMW, and Arita 1616.
