Frédéric Sofia
French designer Frédéric Sofia is renowned for bringing emotional warmth, ergonomic clarity, and joyful curves to contemporary industrial objects. A self-taught designer with a background in engineering and mechanical intuition, Sofia views furniture as a medium of shared conviviality and spatial optimism. Sofia is best known worldwide for his transformative collaboration with outdoor brand Fermob. In 2004, at the invitation of the City of Paris, he reinterpreted the iconic 1923 steel chair of the Jardin du Luxembourg. The result was the award-winning Luxembourg collection. Engineered from lightweight, weather-resistant extruded aluminum, Sofia softened the historic lines into welcoming curves and curved seat slats, creating a global archetype of alfresco living that spans loungers, benches, and dining tables.
