Charles & Ray Eames
American design pioneers Charles (1907–1978) and Ray Eames (1912–1988) are arguably the most influential design couple of the 20th century. Working from their legendary studio in Venice, California, the pair transformed furniture through groundbreaking experiments in molded plywood, fiberglass, and welded wire. Produced by Herman Miller and Vitra, their enduring masterworks include the Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman (1956), the molded plastic and fiberglass Shell Chairs (DSW/DAW), the bentwood LCW, and the cast-aluminum Aluminium Group series. Believing in "the best for the most for the least," their prolific output bridged architecture, furniture, filmmaking, and graphic design.
