Danish furniture designer Morten Gøttler (1944–2017) was celebrated for an innate understanding of wood, ergonomic lightness, and intuitive Scandinavian joinery. Originally educated in shipping, Gøttler transitioned to self-taught industrial and furniture design in 1972, establishing his own studio characterized by quiet, unpretentious functionalism. Gøttler’s enduring masterpiece is the MG501 Cuba Chair (1997), crafted in partnership with master cabinetmaker Carl Hansen & Søn. Designed as an adaptable folding lounge chair, the Cuba Chair features a solid oak frame laced with heavy-duty cotton or paper cord webbing. It offers full lounge comfort while folding completely flat for effortless storage.
