Studio Toer
Eindhoven-based multidisciplinary design collective Studio Toer—founded in 2011 by Castor Bours and Wiane Roukens—is internationally recognized for experimental, interactive, and kinetic design that questions static physical environments. Both graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven, the duo operates at the intersection of product design, architecture, and kinetic art. Studio Toer gained global prominence through playful, boundary-pushing creations that respond directly to natural elements. Landmark projects include the Cumulus parasol—an autonomous, solar-powered parasol that self-inflates into a cloud-like canopy when the sun shines—the kinetic Bramble lighting installation, and the lightweight Fiet chandelier that breathes with ambient airflow. Their production homeware explores unexpected material behavior and playful domestic interaction.
