Stockholm-based design studio Front—founded in 2004 by Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren—is internationally acclaimed for an exploratory, narrative-rich practice that subverts conventional industrial design. Investigating optical illusions, animal behaviors, and natural phenomena, the duo creates objects that exist between functional furniture and conceptual art. Front achieved worldwide design fame with the iconic Animal Thing collection (2006) for Dutch design house Moooi, led by the life-sized black polyester Horse Lamp and Pig Table. For Italian brand Moroso, they created the layered Doodle and Pebble Rubble landscape seating, while authoring the blown-glass Melt pendant for Tom Dixon and the kinetic Restless series for Kvadrat.
