Description

The Enigma 825 Pendant designed by Shoichi Uchiyama in 2005 is a striking fusion of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian lighting philosophy. This large-scale fixture is defined by its architectural structure of floating circular layers that appear to hover mid-air, creating a sense of weightlessness and transparency. The design features several thin, matte-finished acrylic rings suspended by ultra-fine wires, which catch and diffuse the light to provide a soft and comfortable downward illumination. By positioning the light source within the cone-shaped top, the design ensures that the light is filtered through the graduating discs, effectively eliminating glare while creating a rhythmic interplay of light and shadow. This focus on indirect, atmospheric lighting makes it an ideal centerpiece for large dining areas, foyers, or high-ceilinged commercial spaces. The pendant is constructed from brushed aluminum and high-quality acrylic, materials chosen for their ability to provide a clean, modern aesthetic that complements a wide range of interior styles. Its distinctive silhouette is both a functional lighting tool and a sculptural art piece that transforms the surrounding environment. Dimensions for this largest version in the series include a diameter of 82.5 centimeters and a height of 155 centimeters. Each piece is manufactured by Louis Poulsen, continuing the brand's tradition of creating innovative luminaires that shape the perception of space.
