Welling / Ludvik

Danish-Icelandic design partnership Welling / Ludvik—founded in Copenhagen in 2010 by Danish designer Hee Welling (b. 1974) and Icelandic designer Gudmundur Ludvik (b. 1970)—is internationally celebrated for an elemental approach they term "Pure Design." Both graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, the duo strips away decorative excess to expose structural function. The studio has authored acclaimed icons for premier Scandinavian manufacturers. For Cane-line, they created the celebrated Less outdoor chair—a lightweight, stackable chair framed in powder-coated cast aluminum—and the Area table family. For Fredericia, they developed the minimalist Pato chair collection, featuring recyclable polypropylene shells. Their work prioritizes environmental circularity, automated production efficiency, and tactile ergonomic comfort.
