Portuguese product designer Rui Pereira brings a warm, narrative-driven perspective to contemporary Nordic design. Educated in Porto and Milan at the Scuola Politecnica di Design, Pereira spent formative years working in Milan with Patricia Urquiola before relocating to Copenhagen to direct visual design for HAY and establish his multidisciplinary practice, Pereira Office. Pereira’s work explores cultural customs, tactile memory, and local manufacturing traditions. For HAY, he conceived the acclaimed Barro tableware collection—named after the Portuguese word for red clay—which translates rustic terracotta craftsmanship into dishwasher-safe, richly glazed modern dining pieces. Alongside designer Ryosuke Fukusada, he also created the miniature ceramic Chim Chim aroma diffuser and the fluted Brim pendant lamp.
