Danish mobile designer Ole Flensted (b. 1950) is internationally revered for carrying forward the poetic tradition of the Danish mobile, transforming suspended air currents into kinetic visual art. Taking over the family atelier Flensted Mobiles—founded in 1954 by his parents Christian and Grethe Flensted on the island of Funen—Ole has spent decades mastering the delicate physics of equilibrium. Flensted has authored hundreds of kinetic hanging sculptures celebrated for dynamic movement and weightless balance. Landmark creations include the iconic Futura Mobile (1970)—contrasting light and heavy beechwood spheres along stainless-steel tension wires—alongside the Flowing Rhythm, Niels Bohr Atom Model, and Symphony mobiles. Assembled entirely by hand in Denmark, his mobiles respond continuously to the gentlest room air currents.
