Danish architect and designer Mogens Lassen (1901–1987) was a defining pioneer of Nordic functionalism. Deeply influenced by Le Corbusier, the Bauhaus, and his lifelong friend Arne Jacobsen, Lassen championed clean planar surfaces, open light, and strict mathematical proportion across both architecture and furniture. Despite struggling with dyslexia, Lassen developed an extraordinary spatial intuition. In 1962, inspired by contemporary art and functional clarity, he conceived the iconic Kubus candleholder—a cubic steel frame holding four candles in strict mathematical harmony, originally reserved solely for his family and close colleagues. His groundbreaking furniture includes the sculpted The Tired Man overstuffed armchair (1935) and the folding ML43 Stool. His visionary output is preserved and produced by Audo Copenhagen (by Lassen).
